In this seminar, I will present how we introduce elastic strains and strain patterns and their impacts on several emerging energy materials: nickelate perovskites, halide perovskites and ferroelectrics, and wurtzite sulfides. In particular, I will discuss how chemical pressure imposed by the rare earth elements in RENiO3 (RE: Rare earth) films determines RENiO3’s phase transition kinetics and proton mobility; with the assistance of optical spectroscopy, I will present several evidences on suggesting the existence of significant Van der Waals epitaxial strains in halides perovskites and layered thin film materials; I will discuss the substantial consequence of Van der Waals epitaxial strains on the optical properties of halides thin films; finally, I will show how phase transition oxides could be applied to manipulate the electron-lattice interactions in a model semiconducting wurtzite CdS and perovskite halides.

石建,伦斯勒理工学院助理教授。2002-2006年就读于西安交通大学材料科学与工程系,2008年于密苏里大学哥伦比亚分校取得机械工程硕士学位,2012年于威斯康星大学麦迪逊分校获材料科学博士学位,于2014在哈佛大学完成博士后工作并同年作为助理教授入职伦斯勒理工学院。石建主要从事复杂氧化物和半导体材料的生长和性能研究。曾获得美国材料研究协会优秀研究生银奖,美国材料科学与技术大会优秀研究生蓝宝石奖,威斯康星大学材料系Turnbull 最佳论文奖,美国空军科研办公室青年研究者奖和伦斯勒理工学院工程学院科研优秀奖。
